This belt design is inspired by a Māori pattern found in many carvings throughout Aotearoa. While its meaning can vary, in this design the pattern represents two ideas: the movement and strength of the ocean, and a spiderweb (pungawerewere), symbolizing the link between generations and the family tree, each turn representing a generation.
As you wear this belt, our hope is that it reminds you to draw strength from your ancestors and to leave a positive mark for the generations to come.
